HATTIESBURG – Hattiesburg used a dominant second quarter to pull away from Starkville Monday night as the Lady Yellowjackets fell 56-26 to the hosts at the Hattiesburg Holiday Classic.
The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Jackets 23-5 in the second period, forcing Starkville to play from far behind during the second half.
"You have to put together four quarters and we weren't able to do that," said Starkville head coach Kristie Williams. "You can't play (like we did in the second quarter) against any team, much less a powerhouse like Hattiesburg. You have to play hard for four quarters if you want to have a chance."
Starkville, who fell to 4-8 for the season, was led in scoring by Brittany Brown's 10 points.
Whitney Taylor added six points for the Lady Jackets.
Starkville continues play in the Hattiesburg event today at 1:30 p.m. against Lake, a team that defeated the Lady Jackets earlier this season.
"This is our last game for 2010, so we're hoping to end this half of the season on a high note," said Williams.
