The Starkville Civic League met on October 26 at Cadence Bank. Our hostesses for the meeter were: Mary Ann Fuller, Bettye Duncan and Opelia Reed. The table was decorated beautifully as usual. Thank you ladies.
LaWanda Swan was our guest speaker who provided us with laughter in the sweetest way, with her entertainment on "African-American Woman's Fashion with Adornments (Hats)." She spoke about the ladies of the Church deciding to ware hats on Sundays in order to let the congregation know just who was who in the high-archy of the Church. LaWanda showed us certain styles and the ways that you could wear your hat to draw attention or to not draw attention to your station in the Church.
She said, "that by wearing a hat, you can have a Hat-a-tude," so ladies, we can start wearing our hats again!
LaWanda received her undergraduate degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Theatre. Later she received a masters in English as a Second Language as well as a minor in Gender Studies. LaWanda currently works on the MSU campus as an Event Coordinator and in the Sexual Assault Services Department.
