The wedding will be January 22, 2011 at six oâ€™clock in the evening at New Hope Baptist Church in Clarkdale, with reception to follow at Northwood Country Club in Meridian.
Dr. Karen Hand is the granddaughter of Ms Alma Hand and the late Mr. Ehrman Hand of Jemison, Ala., and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Carden of Jemison, Ala.
The bride-elect graduated valedictorian from Clarkdale High School and summa cum laude with high honors from Mississippi College where she received a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry. After receiving her M.D. from the University Of Mississippi School Of Medicine, she relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas where she is currently enrolled in a 5 year residency for orthopaedic surgery with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Following graduation in June 2011, she has been accepted for a fellowship in orthopaedic trauma at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Dr. Hand is currently a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society and the Orthopeadic Trauma Association.
Mr. Phil Hartness is the grandson of Ms. Florence Phillips and the late Mr. Sam Phillips, Jr. of Starkville, Mississippi and the late Leroy and Earline Hartness of Noxapater, Mississippi.
The bridegroom-elect is a graduate of Starkville Academy and a graduate with a bachelor of science degree from Millsaps College and a master of science degree from Mississippi State University. He is currently president of the Greater Starkville Development Partnership Ambassadors and a member of the GSDP Chamber Advisory Board. Mr. Hartness is a franchise owner of Ameriprise Financial in Starkville.
