NEW ORLEANS — Two teenagers were charged last week with murder in the Dec. 23 shooting death of former Starkville resident Jonathan Hall, a television station in the Crescent City has reported.
WDSU-TV Channel 6 in New Orleans has reported that 16-year-old Cedric Berryhill and another juvenile, Darren Adams, have both been charged with first-degree murder in Hall's slaying two nights before Christmas.
Hall, 27, died from a single gunshot wound to the head at his home at 1225 St. Roch Ave. in New Orleans.
New Orleans police went to Hall's home around 11 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting in the 1200 block of St. Roch, according to prior media reports. Hall was pronounced dead at the scene.
Berryhill and Adams made initial appearances in juvenile court in New Orleans this past Thursday, but will appear before a juvenile court judge on Friday to determine whether they will face the murder charges as adult offenders, WDSU reported.
Berryhill was also arrested last week in connection with a home invasion and attempted aggravated rape in the 1400 block of Port Street in New Orleans on Dec. 23 — the same day Hall was slain.
He is being investigated as a suspect in other criminal cases, WDSU reported.
Hall, who attended Starkville High School and had several friends in the area, was the son of Ben and Barbara Hall of Starkville and held several odd jobs in the New Orleans area and was most recently a chef at a French Quarter restaurant, his father told the Daily News last week.
Ben Hall said New Orleans police detectives told him that his son's body was found near the entrance of his home. NOPD detectives told him that they believe Hall may have come home while the suspects were burglarizing the home and been attacked, Ben Hall said.
Memorial services for Jonathan Hall were being held out-of-state, his father said.
