TUPELO – The Starkville Yellowjackets saw their Class 6A, Region 1 record even at 2-2 when Tupelo hit a three-point field goal at the buzzer to win a 73-72 decision at home.
Starkville had a 72-70 lead near the end of the game when the Golden Wave sank the winning three-pointer.
After missing a pair of free throws, the basketball kicked back to Tupelo and as the Starkville defense collapsed, the Golden Wave threw up a one-handed, off-balanced shot that somehow found its way into the hoop.
Jacoby Mobley led the Jackets with 19 points, while Gavin Ware added 15 points and Mike Brand and Tori Rice had 13 points each.
Starkville (12-6), which has lost four of its last five games, hosts Noxubee County tonight.
