Lady Volunteers dominate boards to get road victory

SENATOBIA – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers held a sizable rebounding advantage of 34-14, which head coach Glenn Schmidt called a "big stat" and went on to defeat Magnolia Heights School 51-25 on the road Friday night.
The Lady Vols, who improved to 18-12 overall and evened their North-Division 1 conference mark at 6-6, held a 27-15 lead at halftime and only allowed the Lady Chiefs to score 10 points in the second half.
Anna Lea Little was the leading scorer for SA with 16 points, while Sallie Kate Richardson added 15 points, and Julianne Jackson chipped in eight points. Richardson and Nora Kathryn Carroll had eight rebounds each, Jackson pulled down seven boards and Little claimed six rebounds.
Schmidt called the win "a good one to get on the road and one where everybody played.
The Lady Vols return home today to play against Clarksdale-Lee at approximately 4 p.m. following junior high action.

SENATOBIA – The Vols couldn't overcome a slow start as they dropped the road decision.
Starkville Academy (8-18 overall, 1-11 conference) had two back-to-back eight-point quarters to start the game and actually out-scored its host 25-18 but it was not enough.
Adam Crittenden led the Vols in the scoring department with 14 points, while Kyle Lomen had 12 points and J.R. Gerhart also reached double figures with 10 points.
Starkville Academy will recognize its seniors today prior to today's boys varsity action that will begin at approximately 6 p.m.
