ACWORTH, Ga. — Carl Oliver “Ollie” Hughes, 81, of 4835 Ryan Road, Acworth, Georgia, formerly of Walhalla, S.C., and most recently of Starkville, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at the OCH Regional Medical Center of Starkville.
A native of Oconee County, S.C., Mr. Hughes was the son of the late Jesse Maxwell and Nell Blackwell Hughes. He was the retired owner of an Amoco Service Station and member of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Hughes served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member with several clubs associated with these sports.
Mr. Hughes is survived by a son, Carl Maxwell Hughes of Acworth, Ga.; daughters, Vicki Hughes Leach of Starkville, Becky Hughes Dyar of Walhalla, S.C., and Peggy Hughes Mason of North Carolina; brother, Broadus Hughes of Anderson, S.C.; sister, Syble Garrett of Marietta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hughes was predeceased by a son, Timothy Lane Hughes; brother, Billy Hughes; and sister, Annie Miller.
