For the Daily News

Camgian Microsystems Corporation, provider of advanced electronic systems and semiconductor technologies, today announced it has been awarded an Army Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase 1 project.
This SBIR project will develop a high performance milliwatt power generating source, by integrating lightweight thermoelectric (TE) energy harvesting devices with power management architecture, to recharge a battery on the body while users are on the move. The milli-power source will be based on an energy harvesting system using state-of-the-art thermoelectric technology to allow power generation with as little as one to two-degree temperature differences between the body surface and external temperatures.
“Today’s land-warrior and many emergency service personnel carry a wide variety of electronic devices. These devices are powered by batteries that are both bulky and heavy,” said Michael Hagedorn, Camgian Program Manager.
“Energy that has been efficiently scavenged from body heat can be used to recharge these batteries ‘on the go’. This then gives us the options of reducing the size and number of batteries and/or extending mission-life.”
Camgian Microsystems is a leader in developing advanced sensors, microelectronics and semiconductor technologies and solutions. From microcontrollers to Systems-on-a-Chip (SoC), Camgian engineers are pioneering leading-edge innovations that are enabling a new generation of low power, high performance electronic systems and products for the defense, security and industrial markets.
Camgian, a HUBZone-certified small business, is headquartered in Starkville, MS with division offices located in Maitland, FL and Dulles, VA. More detailed information can be obtained by visiting the company website at www.camgian.com.
