BROOKHAVEN – The East Oktibbeha boys basketball team lost to Durant 89-61 Friday in the Class A South State playoffs hosted by West Lincoln High School in Brookhaven.
Casey Neal scored a game-high 22 points and Davontae Lucious tallied 15 for East Oktibbeha, but it wasn't enough to deter the high-scoring Durant offense that was led by Kevin Morvette's 19 points.
Durant was in control most of the way, streaking out to a 47-30 lead by halftime and never looking back.
In losing, the Titans also ended what had been a remarkable late-season turnaround.
After finishing the regular season with a 6-18 record, East Oktibbeha won three games in French Camp to capture the Class A, Region 5 Tournament championship and enter the playoffs as the district's top seed.
Once in the postseason, the Titans defeated Thomastown 70-65 at home on Tuesday and downed Sebastopol 60-50 on Thursday in Brookhaven.
Those victories put East Oktibbeha into Friday's game against Durant, where a win would have put the Titans in the Class A South State championship game and secured a berth in next week's State Tournament at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.
Instead, East Oktibbeha's season wraps up with a final overall record of 11-19.
