Davis exhibit opens Monday at SDN office

February 19, 2011

A special exhibit at the Starkville Daily News office will give readers an opportunity to view some of the paintings they have been reading about in the Lifestyles section each Sunday.
Thirty-seven paintings by Carole McReynolds Davis will be featured in a special display in the SDN office beginning Monday. The exhibit titled “Hats off to Carole” will run through March 7.
The public is invited to an artist’s reception set for 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 27 at the SDN office.
Some of Davis’ favorites in this collection are“The Lady In Pink,” “Ned Gandy,” “You Cling To Every Thread That Clings To Me...Lawrence Johnson,” “John Thomas McReynolds, Last Dairyman In Oktibbeha County”, “Daffodil Hill,” and “Run Mallory Ann, Run!”
“A painting comes first from a driving inspiration leading to the creation, and finally to the completed work of art itself,” Davis said. “An artist can see by looking into a special face which becomes a portrait the very soul of her subject.”
Davis said artist enjoys the changing seasons of each year, spring, summer, winter, and autumn as they see all the colors of each one which becomes a landscape.
“I see, create, and then, share with my viewers my work on canvas to be enjoyed and appreciated for years to come,” Davis said.
For those who know Davis, her “love affair” with hats is legendary throughout Starkville, thus the exhibit title, “Hats off to Carole!”
The column began with “The Purple Iris” in March 2010, and since then, Davis has written weekly columns for the Starkville Daily News. This exhibit features the original paintings from some of the columns written throughout the year.
The exhibit will be on display during regular working hours through March 7. The Starkville Daily News office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
