Steele's season over for Bulldogs after knee injury

Mississippi State officials have announced freshman guard Jalen Steele will be out of the rest of the 2010-11 season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee Wednesday night.
Steele, who had been averaging 5.7 points per game in 18 minutes per contest, suffered the injury in the second half of State's 84-82 loss at LSU while diving out of bounds for a loose ball. The freshman from Knoxville, Tenn., landed awkwardly and was helped off the floor and into the locker room by MSU trainer Scott Johnson after the play occurred.
Steele had started the last six regular season games after Ravern Johnson was suspended nearly a month ago and now it appears the senior will rejoin the Bulldogs starting lineup for Saturday's road contest at Tennessee (5 p.m., ESPN).
The Bulldogs will be down to nine scholarship players for the rest of the 2010-11 season.
MSU officials have told The Starkville Daily News Steele will make the trip with his MSU teammates to his hometown of Knoxville and is expected to have surgery in the next 10-14 days on his left knee. The estimated rehabilitation time for this injury is five to six months and the procedure will be done by Dr. Scott Jones.
