West Point â€” Vanita Spencer Ellis, 90, passed away, Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT, Columbus. Vanita Spencer Ellis was born December 10, 1920 in Ordway, Colorado to the late Edith Evelyn Keller Spencer and Benjamin Franklin Spencer and was a homemaker. She was an active longtime member of First Baptist Church. She and her late husband, J. F. Ellis celebrated 62 years of marriage. Mrs. Ellis was devoted to her church and family. Vanita Spencer Ellis married James Franklin Ellis, Jr. October 14, 1944, Corvallas, Oregon who predeceased her on May 26, 2007.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 24, at 2 p.m. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron McDougal officiating, assisted by Rev. Dale Funderburg. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include four daughters, Connie Durbin (Harry) of Collierville, TN, Shirley F. Ellis of Columbus, Charlotte Ann Ray (Charlie) of Fayetteville, Ark, Carol Vinzant (Ron) of Antioch, CA; one son, Jim Ellis (Jammie Lou) of Starkville; Seven grandchildren: Amy Ellis, Cindy Elliott, Kristen Mitchell, Amanda Durbin, Harry Durbin, Jr., Vanita Vedenhaupt, Ellisa Allen; Eight Great Grandchildren: Joe Mitchell, Jake Elliott, Emily Mitchell, Roen Vedenhaupt, Judah Vedenhaupt, Claire Durbin, Harrison Durbin and Gage Allen. Vanita Spencer Ellis was also predeceased by by three brothers and one sister
Pallbearers will be Brent Mitchell, Chris Elliott, Drew Vedenhaupt, Graham Allen, Edwin Ellis, and Mike Simmons.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 794, West Point, MS 39773.
Visitation will be Thursday, at 12:30 p.m. until service time at Calvert Funeral Home.
