The Starkville Yellowjackets swept through another tennis opponent Thursday afternoon.
Although the Jackets, now with an 8-0 overall record this season, are pleased with what they've been able to do, coaches Anna Albritton and Rob Fyke know the squad is about to get into the thick of the Class 6A, Region 2 schedule.
Starkville has already won three division matches, having beaten Columbus twice and South Panola once, but things toughen up considerably with a home match against Tupelo on the horizon on Monday.
"I'm pleased so far and we'll know more after Monday," Fyke said. "We'll know a whole lot more after next week.
"We've played a couple of teams that have pushed us a little bit and we've learned a lot more playing those two teams than the others."
The Jackets defeated the West Point Green Wave 7-0 in one of those tune-up outings on Thursday.
Starkville's victories were Andrew Moorhead in boys singles 6-3, 6-1, Emily Turner in girls singles 6-1, (retired), Louis Maynard and Kyler Renden in No. 1 boys doubles 6-4, 6-2, Clark Pittman and Brian Zu in No. 2 boys doubles 6-1, 6-0, Christine Mazzola and Dasha Banderinko in No. 1 girls singles 6-1, 6-0, Mikayla Taylor and Pryanka Parajuli in No. 2 girls singles 6-1, 6-2, and Jack Bryan and Hannah Laird in mixed doubles 6-2, 6-2.
With the way the Jackets are playing now, Fyke likes their chances when it comes time to play the Golden Wave from Lee County.
"We've got a chance so we're going to line them up and see what we can do," Fyke said.
Starkville travels to French Camp today before playing Tupelo.
