Larry Louis Lolley

April 8, 2011

Larry Louis Lolley, 78, passed away on April 7, 2011 at home after a brief illness.
He was born in Little Rock, Ark., on April 3, 1933, to the late William and Virginia Sweet Lolley. His family moved to Starkville in 1938 where he resided until his death.
He graduated from Starkville High School and Mississippi State
University and was the owner of Larry Lolley Motor Company and Lolley Real Estate.
Mr. Lolley served in the Army National Guard 31st Infantry “Dixie” Division 114th Field Artillery unit and served two years active duty in the U.S, Army.  He was a member of American Legion Post 13 and the Forty and Eight veterans honor society. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Starkville.
Mr. Lolley had a great interest in flying and earned his pilot’s license in 1954 at the age of 21. He was appointed by the Board of Supervisors to the Starkville-Oktibbeha County Airport Board for Bryan Field in 1987. He was a member of the Airport Board for more than 22 years and served several of those years as President of the Board. A stalwart on the board, he was one of the driving forces behind improving the airport infrastructure, especially building hangars, runways, installation of flying aids, and acquisition of land necessary to the airport’s growth. His leadership assured that the airport served, not only the needs of the community, but the world-class research being done at the Mississippi State University Raspet Flight Laboratory.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Mary Frances Lolley; two daughters, Kathy Lolley Montgomery and her husband, Steve, of West Point; Ginny Lolley Mullendore and her husband, Mike, of Madison; four grandchildren, Laurie Montgomery Matlock and her husband Joey of Jackson, Tenn., Katherine Montgomery of Flowood, Will Mullendore and Katie Mullendore of Madison; and one great grandchild, Lena Michelle Matlock.  He is also survived by his sister Rebecca Lolley Meyer of Meridian; and brothers, Walter Lolley of Gulfport, and Charles Lolley of Brandon.
