Memorial services for Cecil H. ‘Sonny’ Coker will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Webb Chapel with Rev. Bob Followell officiating. 
Burial will be at Coker’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with James F. Webb Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Coker, 77, of Kewanee, formerly of Chatham TWP, New Jersey, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Queen City Nursing Center.  He is survived by his daughter, Janet C. Dewey, and her husband, Chris, of Starkville; his sons, James E. Coker and, his wife, Joan, of Clinton,  John C. Coker and his wife Diana, of Stroudsburg, Penn., and Robert W. Coker of Kewanee; eight grandchildren, Patricia, Johnathan, Katherine, Graham, Patrick, Carley, Kyle, and Alysha; two brothers in law Andre Clemandot and his wife, Rose Marie of Durham, N.C., and James Clemandot of Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents John Calvin Coker and Ethel Allen Coker; his wife Dorothy ‘Dot’ Coker; a daughter Joyce E. Coker; and in-laws, Andre Charles Claude Clemandot and Dorothy Virginia Miller Clemandot.
Dr. Cecil Coker was a retired electrical engineer with Bell Laboratories of Murray Hill, N.J., Dr. Coker authored or co-authored 14 patents for inventions such as resettable circuit breakers, photoelectric cells to provide lighting and randomly generated sounds for productions, and text-to-talk computer generated speech.  He authored one book and numerous technical papers. Dr. Coker was one of the engineers who participated in the original performance of "9 Evenings: Theatre and Engineering," a festival of music and technology that took place in 1966 in New York.
