The 2011 Cotton District Arts Festival's Taste of Starkville event features the best in best culinary treats from restaurants and chefs from all over the area.
The Taste of Starkville is focused on locally owned restaurants and chefs providing their own version of street food, with an emphasis on quality and portability.
The competition allows local restaurants to showcase their best burgers, pizza, ribs, ice cream or whatever they feel will catch the judges’ eye.
Judges visit every booth and allow each restaurant vendor to present their best item.
After a great day of tasting the best each restaurant has to offer, the lucky judges will name winners in categories such as Most Likely for Seconds, Best on a Hot Day, and Best in Show.
Tasha Hill, chair of the Taste of Starkville for several years in a row, states, “I am very excited to serve as chair of the Taste of Starkville once again. Last year was a huge success, and we are expecting the same this year. We have dozens of wonderful food vendors ready to participate in this year’s Taste of Starkville - this is an excellent opportunity for everyone in the community and the surrounding area to taste some delicious foods and sweet treats.”
But although the judges may have it good in this year’s Taste of Starkville, the real winners in this delightful competition are the festival-goers themselves, with a large selection of vendors and something to please everyone, as well as the participating vendors, who take pride in the competitive nature of the event as well as the chance to visit with their fellow culinary professionals.
Says Jay Yates, co-chair of the Taste of Starkville, “We (vendors) enjoy the atmosphere of the day, the hopefully good weather, and the community feel of it. It’s also a nice chance for people who may not have had the opportunity to dine in your restaurant to taste your food and possibly entice them to visit you in the future.”
In addition to all the great food, be sure to check out the always entertaining Server Relay Race, where local restaurants will put together their finest team of servers to compete in a series of wacky and unusual tasks for the chance to claim the title of “Best Servers” in Starkville.
So come with your biggest appetite and best energy to cheer on your favorite waiter in the festival’s most chaotic race beginning at 2 p.m. this April 23.
The Starkville Area Arts Council is proud to bring this festival to Starkville and appreciates the support of the City of Starkville, the Greater Starkville Development Partnership, and the Mississippi Arts Commission.
