Daniel Wendell McCalip

Daniel Wendell McCalip, 94, died on Thursday, April 27, 2011 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville. He was employed by Mississippi State University from 1950-1979, retiring as the Controller. Mr. “Mac” was very dedicated to his family and took great pride in his work with Mississippi State University.
Born in Hermanville, Mr. McCalip spent his time as a young man in Natchez.
Mr. McCalip was a World War II Navy veteran and served in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Celeno where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Prior to his service in the Navy Mr. McCalip attended Bowling Green University.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Whittington McCalip of Starkville, MS; daughter, Kathy Brown of Starkville, MS; grandchildren, Katy Surkin, Marty Gebhart and Leland; Great Grandchildren, Mary Kathryn and Joseph Surkin and Grace Gebhart, Land Gebhart and Lilly Gebhart.
Visitation for Mr. McCalip will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home with a funeral service immediately following at 2 p.m. in the Welch Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Clifton Curtis. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Park.
