Another Hall of Fame honor can be added to the impressive resume of football coach Bubba Davis.
Along with already being parts of the West Point, East Mississippi, Delta State and Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fames, Davis was inducted into the Walker County (Jasper, Ala.) Hall of Fame last weekend.
Davis, who is now an assistant on Jeff Terrill's staff at Starkville Academy, said the credit for any success of a coach goes beyond one person.
"Stuff like that is a tribute to the kids and coaches that I had there," Davis said. "We went through a great run of kids. For Jasper, Ala., we had a lot of good players go through our program. Our coaches did a great job and because of the success they helped us to have, I get to reap the benefits."
Davis has a head-coaching record of 227-106 and was the head coach at Columbus, Petal, New Albany, Wayne County and West Point in Mississippi, along with two stops in Georgia. He won four state championships during his tenure with the Green Wave.
Before joining Terrill and the Vols, Davis worked as an assistant at Immanuel Christian School in Columbus.
"The reputation that preceded him has been nothing but solidified," Terrill said. "He just uplifts everyone he's around. He is a man of great wisdom. He handles the kids well and he's just a pleasure to coach with."
Starkville Academy has entered the second week of spring practice and Davis has enjoyed helping instruct the Vols.
"Coach Terrill does a great job and the kids have worked real hard in the weight room and try to do what we ask them to do. I really enjoy being out there and practice. When you have kids that will do what you ask them to do, that's pleasant. I'm having the time of my life."
