From SDN staff reports
Choctaw County Coroner Keith Coleman told Starkville Daily News late Wednesday that an escaped county inmate was deceased following a law enforcement pursuit that began after the inmate overpowered an Ackerman police officer and stole her police cruiser.
Inmate Bobby Fair, 27, escaped from the Choctaw County Courthouse in Ackerman about 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday after taking a gun from a female officer and forcing her to unlock his chains. Fair then stole the officer’s police cruiser, cell phone and Taser. Fair was facing court action on two counts of armed robbery.
The pursuit of Fair by local and state law enforcement ended on the Natchez Trace north of French Camp some four hours later.
Details remain sketchy as Choctaw County officials were preparing to send Fair’s body to the state Crime Laboratory for an autopsy. The Mississippi Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol were also investigating.
