Mr. Joseph Robert "Joe Bob" Davis, 83, retired educator, died June 15 at North Miss. Medical Center in Eupora. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on June 17 at First Baptist Church in Eupora where Mr. Davis was a longtime member, deacon, andÂ Sunday School teacher. Graveside services will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Mantee. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 37 years, Romie Wood Davis; three daughters, Sherry Davis [Leroy] Parker, Jan Stennett [E. D.] DeLashment, and Nancy Stennett [Robert] Love; three sisters, Ann Davis Millsaps, Sue Davis McKinnon, and Jimmie Davis Ivy; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Ruth Pinson Craig Davis and a daughter Betty Ruth Davis Collum. He received his collegiate education from Wood Junior College and Mississippi State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree and two master's degrees. He was a teacher and coach at Hurricane School in Pontotoc Co. He then went to Clarkson School before going to Cumberland Schoo, now East Webster, for twenty years, also serving as principal. He served as the federal program administrator of the Webster County Schools for 13 years before being elected superintendent of Webster County Schools. Mr. Davis then retired from the public school system. He returned to education because of his love for children by becoming state supervisor of NAEP. During his life, he was active in every community in which he lived. Joe Bob is remembered as a man who committed his energy to enriching the life of every person with whom he made contact. The family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Eupora Building Fund or the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Fund at 12601 Hwy. 16, Mantee, MS, 39751.
