Griffith Robert Jones

Griffith Robert Jones peacefully passed away at home in his sleep on June 14, 2011.
Griff was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on April 13, 1973 to Nancee Lee Light Jones and Robert Grant Jones.  He lived his life in Twin Falls, Idaho; Quemado, Texas; Rocky Mount, N.C.; Florence, S.C.; and has resided in Starkville since 1989.
Griff graduated from Starkville High School with honors, Mississippi State University with a degree in biochemistry with honors and was a member of several honor societies.  Graduate study was completed at Purdue University with a master’s degree in Agronomy.  While at Purdue, he played roller blade hockey and was a mentor for the youth teams in hockey and baseball.
Griff soon discovered his real love was electronics and enrolled at East Mississippi Community College.  He received the degree of an Associate of Applied Science Electrical Technology and received awards as an Outstanding Student with Outstanding Academic Achievement.  Griff was employed at MFJ Enterprises, LLC and enjoyed using his technical training on the job and enjoyed his association with his co-workers.
As a youth, Griff was a 4-H member with projects in Entomology, Forestry and Photography.  His photography project of building a camera and taking photos to display won him first place at his school science fair.  Griff played soccer for several years on YMCA teams and enjoyed swimming at the Y.  He was baptized and confirmed into the church in 1987 and one of his greatest joys was going to vacation bible school.
Survivors include Griff’s parents of Starkville; his brother, Christopher of Starkville; his sister, Sarah (David) of Ackerman; his uncle, Gordon (Margaret) Jones of Nashville, Tenn.; his aunts, Mary Katherine (John) Olson of Albuquerque, N.M. and Patricia (Randall) Given of Santa Fe, Texas; 16 cousins and many second cousins. 
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his uncle, Donald John Light; and his aunt, Jeanee Leigh Light Panoke.
Visitation is Friday, June 24, between 5-7 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held on June 25, at 10 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 105 North Montgomery, in Starkville.  Interment will follow the service in the Columbarium Niche at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.
