Mississippi State sophomore linebacker Deontae Skinner has been charged with domestic assault in a June 5 incident.
The Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Department report indicates officers arrived at Skinner's apartment at The Pointe after they received a call from Jasmine Foote of Macon around 1 a.m. Foote was also charged with simple domestic assault.
The report indicates both Skinner and Foote, who have a child together, had physical marks on their person when officers arrived at the scene.
Mississippi State officials have not announced a punishment for Skinner and attempts to reach head football coach Dan Mullen for comment were unsuccessful.
Skinner's arrest marks the second this summer for a State football player after safety Dennis Thames was dismissed from the football team on June 3 for what the MSU athletics department called "multiple violations of team policy."
Thames was arrested May 31 for possession of marijuana and alcohol in a motor vehicle in Winston County. This incident followed his previous arrest for public intoxication before his freshman year suspension from the UAB contest last season for a violation of team rules.
Skinner played in 10 games and recorded seven tackles last season in his first season on the field after redshirting the previous season.
Skinner, of Macon, was ranked the 28th-best strong linebacker prospect in the country by Scout.com when he signed with MSU in 2008. The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder is a projected backup linebacker for new position coach Geoff Collins coming out of this past spring practice behind fellow sophomore Chris Hughes.
