Charge retired against MSU player Skinner

July 5, 2011

The simple domestic assault charge against Mississippi State linebacker Deontae Skinner and the mother of his child were both retired Tuesday by a Justice Court judge.
The Bulldogs sophomore linebacker was one of two parties arrested and charged on June 5 in Starkville on a domestic assault situation.
A Mississippi State team spokesperson said Tuesday the punishment for Skinner will be handled internally by MSU head coach Dan Mullen but will not include a suspension or any time missed on the field.
The Oktibbeha County police report says officers arrived at Skinner's apartment after they received a call from Jasmine Foote, 21, of Macon. Both parties were charged with simple domestic assault.
The report says both Skinner and Foote, who have a child together, had physical marks on their person once officers arrived at the scene at The Pointe apartment complex.
Skinner's arrest marks the second this summer for a Bulldogs football player after safety Dennis Thames was dismissed from the football team on June 3 for what the MSU athletics department called "multiple violations of team policy."
Thames was arrested May 31 for possession of marijuana and alcohol in a motor vehicle in Winston County. This latest incident followed his previous arrest for public intoxication charge before his freshman year and being suspended for the UAB contest last season for a violation of team rules.
Skinner, 20, played in 10 games and recorded seven tackles last season in his first season on the field after redshirting the previous season.
Skinner, who is from Macon, was ranked the 28th-best strong linebacker prospect in the country by when he signed with MSU in 2008. The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder is a projected backup linebacker for new position coach Geoff Collins coming out of this past spring practice behind fellow sophomore Chris Hughes.
