Renovations for a new Starkville restaurant will begin before the end of the month.
Newk’s, a popular deli franchise, will be located at 132 Hwy. 12 West in the former site of Movie Gallery.
“We anticipate construction to begin soon and an opening date sometime in October,” said Stephen Hinkis, Newk’s vice president of franchise operations.
Mitch Hannon, owner of the new location, said he believes Starkville will be a great location for Newk’s.
“Newk’s works so well in all towns, and I think it will fit well with the university and all the athletic events,” he said.
The restaurant will hire around 60 employees to work at the Starkville location, Hannon said.
Newk’s was started by the same team that started McAlister’s Deli. The restaurant is a fast-casual model, offering made-to-order salads, sandwiches and pizzas available for dine-in, carryout or catering.
The franchise has locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and throughout Mississippi.
Newk’s won “Best Deli/Sandwiches” and “Best Meal Under $10” in the Best of Jackson from Jackson Free Press.
