The new school year is just a few weeks away and Sudduth Elementary is preparing for over 300 new kindergarten students.
To ensure that the children and teachers are properly prepared for the new school year, parents are encouraged to pre-register their children as soon as possible.
“We need to pre-register kids because we have a lot of information that we need to gather on them,” said Sudduth Elementary Principal Lisa Thompson.
After registering, children will be assigned a teacher, enrolled in the NurtriKids meal program and any transportation needs will be worked out.
Pre-registration also gives parents time to make sure they have provided all the necessary documents required for enrollment. Those documents include proof of residency, immunization records and a birth certificate. Parents must provide two different documents as proof of residency, which can be a homestead exemption application form, mortgage or property deed, apartment or home lease, a utility bill, driver’s license, voter identification card or an automobile registration. If the child resides in a household where none of the required documents are in their parent’s name, they must provide a notarized affidavit of residency to the school.
It is also important that a parent provides contact information, including three working telephone numbers that can be used in the case of an emergency.
Registration forms can be picked up at the Sudduth Elementary School office, which is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. until August 2.
“It makes for a smoother transition for children and parents if all the details have been taken care of,” Thompson said. “And a teacher will be better prepared if she can take care of all of the details before instruction begins.”
Sudduth Elementary will hold their open house August 5 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children can meet their teacher, see their classroom and drop off any school supplies.
