Benefit golf scramble set for Saturday

August 3, 2011

The inaugural Lyndsi Hill Memorial Classic Golf Tournament is set to begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Saturday at Elm Lake Golf Course.
Event organizer Patrick Quinn, of Mugshots, said the three-man golf scramble will raise money for the Lyndsi Hill Memorial Scholarship, a scholarship which will go toward a Mugshots employee's college expenses.
Hill, who was a former Mugshots employee, died in a car wreck along with Bradley Gibson in March 2009. While Gibson was not an employee at the restaurant, Quinn said he was apart of Mugshots' extended family.
Quinn said both Hill and Gibson were both goal-oriented people, and he hopes to honor their legacy with this scholarship.
"Lyndsi had a smile that would make the whole room shine. Our days were better for knowing her and Brad," Quinn said. "They were two extraordinary people."
Quinn said he hopes to grow the event's stature in the community enough so it becomes a yearly event which will occur over multiple days.
"We're going to use the money we raise to start an endowment this year,” he said, “and hopefully we can grow our scholarship efforts in the years to come."
Currently, 21 teams have signed up for the event, but Quinn said he still hopes the tournament reaches the 30-team maximum.
The tournament will follow a three-person scramble format. The entry fee is $75 per person or $225 per team.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams: the first place team will receive $300, second place will receive $200 and third place will receive $100. Prizes will also be awarded for longest drive and in a closest-to-the-hole competition, while consolation prizes will be awarded on other par 3's. A golfer who hits a hole-in-one will receive $5,000.
