The Greater Starkville Development Partnership and the Starkville Main Street Association are starting a new tradition on Mississippi State University home game Friday nights this fall called New South Weekends.
“We are thrilled to extend our new branding campaign as Mississippi’s College Town by announcing New South Weekends," said Jennifer Gregory, GSDP vice president for tourism development and Starkville Main Street manager. "We have found huge success in providing locals, students, visiting MSU fans and opposing team’s fans fun, free, family oriented events on the eve of Mississippi State’s home football battles."
New South Weekends 2011 events will include:
Sept. 23 — Downtown Block Party: held on Main St., sponsored by the Starkville Main Street Association and the Holmes Cultural Diversity Center;
Oct. 14 — Downtown Pumpkinpalooza: held on Main St., sponsored by the Starkville Main Street Association, Starkville Community Market and Starkville Area Arts Council;
Nov. 4 — Bulldog Family Frenzy: held at the Junction on the campus of MSU, sponsored by the MSU Student Association;
Nov. 11 — Bulldog Bash: held in the Cotton District, sponsored by the MSU Student Association and presented by Emerge;
Nov. 25 — the Egg Ball: held on the MSU campus, sponsored by Mississippi Kids Count.
Gregory said the events are of the quality caliber fans, students, families and others expect from Starkville when thinking of the town as a go-to destination for weekend of fun during football season.
