FRENCH CAMP — Just in case you were wondering, it wasn't a fluke.
French Camp backed up two of its biggest wins in school history with a convincing 46-25 win over visiting Weir on Friday night to establish itself as one of the teams to watch in MHSAA Class 1A this season.
Last year the Panthers snapped a 24-game losing streak against Weir with a 19-14 win and then last week FCA opened the season with a 20-12 stunner over Eupora.
FCA, now 2-0 on the season, used 262 passing yards from sophomore quarterback Jesse Hosket, 110 rushing yards and and three touchdowns from Jaylon Clemons and three touchdowns from Desmond Grayson to roll to the win over its Choctaw County rivals.
"We had a lot of guys that we were able to utilize tonight," said FCA head coach Nathan Wright. "I hope we can just keep doing that and stay injury free."
FCA led 32-12 at the half, but Weir kept fighting in the second half and threatened to make a game of it late before the Panthers scored fourth quarter touchdowns on a 27-yard run by Hagan Box and a 65-yard interception return by Grayson.
The French Camp offense was the story in the first half as the Panthers put up an amazing 324 yards of total offense over the first 24 minutes of the game. FCA finished the night with 433 yards.
Hosket hit on 14-of-23 passes for 262 yards, including touchdown passes of 52 and 13 yards to Grayson, who finished the night with eight catches for 161 yards.
Senior running back Jimarrian Woodard was the workhorse for Weir, rushing for 197 yards on a whopping 39 carries. He scored on touchdown runs of 2 and 4 yards for the 1-1 Lions, who take on East Webster next week. Weir's other scores came on a 1-yard run with an offensive fumble by Mario Hemphill and a 20-yard touchdown pass from J.R. Hall to Tay Edwards on Weir's first possession of the game.
French Camp faces another Choctaw County foe next week, when the Indians of Ackerman pay a visit to FCA.
