Mrs. Virginia Quinn Summerford, 95, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 30, 2011 at Carrington Nursing Facility. Â She was 4 days from her 96th birthday. Â
Visitation for Mrs. Summerford will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 31, from 5-8 p.m at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 1, at 2 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Bro. Donnie Davis. Â Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Bradley.
Mrs. Summerford was born in Longview, on Sept. 3, 1915, to the late Bascom and Mae Quinn. Mrs. Summerford was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Mrs. Summerford spent many years as a homemaker before accepting employment at Weavexx (Lockport Felt) where she retired after 23 years. She was well known as the church pianist for the Bradley Church of God and her love of gospel singing.
Mrs. Summerford was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, J.T. Summerford; her parents, Bascom and Mae Quinn; her brother, Neely Quinn and sister, Hazel Reed.
Mrs. Summerford is survived by her sons, David Summerford (Lenora) Â of Conyers, Ga.; and Wendell Summerford (Ernestine) of Sturgis; three grandchildren, Jean Walsh (Gratham) of Conyers, Ga.; Thomas Summerford (Lauri) of Conyers, Ga.; and Michelle Polk (Micheal) of Starkville; and five great grandsons, Kevin Holland, Travis Holland, John David Summerford, Jacob Summerford, and Ford Polk; and a sister, Kathleen Johnson of Starkville.
The family would like to thank, Dr. Hollister and his staff, the staff at Carrington Nursing Facility, who lovingly cared for her and Oktibbeha County Regional Medical Center.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Fund.
