CRAWFORD – The East Oktibbeha Titans had a big challenge in front of them Friday night when they hosted the Class 4A North Pontotoc Vikings.
Despite the Titans best efforts, the Vikings were too strong as they picked up the 55-0 win.
"They're a good, well-disciplined and well-coached team," said Titans head coach Randy Brooks. "I don't feel like they were 55 points better than us, but we just didn't come out and play."
The Titan defense was strong in the first quarter as they held North Pontotoc to only one touchdown.
At the end of the second, Arthur Gillespie gave the defense a spark when he intercepted a pass. However, the Titan offense was unable to do much on the ensuing drive.
"We played one quarter of football," said Brooks. "I'm not happy by any stretch of the imagination."
The Vikings scored three times in the second quarter and held a 27-0 lead at halftime.
After two more North Pontotoc scoring drives, the Titans trailed 41-0, but their offense began to click a little on the ensuing drive.
The Titans put together an eight-play drive and were deep into Viking territory, but and interception ended their scoring threat.
North Pontotoc scored two more times before the final horn sounded.
The Titans fell to 2-1 this season but will try to get back on the winning way when they host Sebastopol at 7:30 p.m.
