SHS cross country

The Starkville High School cross country team had a good showing at the Christian Brothers University Brooks Twilight Classic, one of the largest twilight meets in the nation, on Saturday.
There were elite teams from all over the United States present at the meet, including Kentucky, Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, Missouri and Mississippi.
The Lady Jackets varsity squad placed 15th out of 36 teams, while the varsity Jackets came in 10th out of 45 teams.
Kate Mattox notched the highest overall finish at 7th in the girls race with a time of 19:21 in a 5K, while Walker Mattox place 25th overall with a time of  20:41 and Shanika Musser, a first-year participant, placed 75th with a time of  21:57.  Two of the top 10 runners for the Lady Jackets did not compete because of illness. Ashley Albritton, Anna Jackson and  Meghan Wolf were all praised for their effort by coach Caroline Woomer.
For the SHS boys, Joseph MacGown placed 12th out of  351 runners with a time of 16:54 in a 5K. He was followed by Damien Grady at 49th place with a time of 17:53 and Kamau Bostic in 78th place with a time of 18:08.  Ethan Musser finished strong in the race, while Stuart Woomer, Aaron Remotigue, Jack Bryan and Alex Ross also contributed to the success for the Jackets.
"This is our best performance ever as a team at the Memphis Twilight meet," Woomer said. "The team has been training hard, and has been diligent to workout consistently. Coach (Chris) Barnett, coach (Joe) MacGown and I are very proud of the hard team work and individual determination of our  runners."
