Martha Dean Gray, 81 went to be with the Lord on Sept. 8, 2011 at OCH Regional Medical Center.Â Visitation will be held on Sept. 8, at Welch Funeral Home from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Bethesda Baptist Church in Crawford, on Sept. 9, at 4 p.m. Rev. James Hutcherson and Rev. Allen Dees will conduct the services.Â Â
Mrs Gray was born in Lowndes County, in Mayhew, on May 29, 1930 to the late Robert Huey and Rachel Hodnett Blankenship.Â She was raised in the Osborn Community and attended Starkville High School.Â She later attended Nursing School in New Orleans, La. and also in Massilon, Ohio on full scholarships to become a Registered Nurse.Â Mrs. Gray retired from nursing after over fifty years of dedicated service to others.Â
Aside from her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Blankenship, Jack Blankenship, and a granddaughter, Rachel Joy Kilpatrick.Â
Pallbearers will be Mark Peterson, Sam Wayne Gray, Randy Gray, Dr. William C. (Billy) Gray, Preston Self and Jimmy D. Kilpatrick.Â
Mrs. Gray married Robert Lee Gray, Sr. on October 29, 1952 and moved to the Gray-Edwards family farm in Oktibbeha County.Â In addition to her husband,Â Robert Lee Gray, Sr. of Crawford; she is survived by her children, DeLynn G. Willard (Brian) of Nesbit; Robert Lee (Bubba) Gray, Jr. (Shirley) of Crawford; three grandchildren, Jessica K. Bridgewater, Justin L. Gray and Merri G. Kilpatrick, also one great-granddaughter, Elisabeth Anne Bridgtewater and a sister, Clara B. Peterson.
An avid master of crafting, Mrs. Gray also worked tirelessly at family geneology.Â She was a member of D.A.R., Colonial Dames and The Jamestown Society.Â Oktibbeha County Library began their on-line geneology with the complete line of records donated by Mrs. Gray, for others to carry on her passion of geneology.Â
