SA soccer caps dominating week by beating Heritage

It has been a pretty good week for the Starkville Academy girls soccer team.
Outscoring Copiah Academy and Heritage Academy by a combined total of 26-0, the Lady Volunteers have done a good job of taking care of business.
Starkville Academy goal keeper Garland Willcutt hasn't had much action come her way in the last two matches, but knows what's looming next week.
"We've kind of had a laid back last two matches, but it's going to pick back up and we're going to have to pick it back up," Willcutt said.
The Lady Vols, who improved to 4-2 with Thursday's 12-0 victory over Heritage, host Jackson Prep next Tuesday.
Although happy where his team stands, Starkville Academy coach Robert Gardner is anxious to see it respond to the challenge next week.
"We're happy with the progression and feel like we're getting better," Gardner said. "We've got a big test on Tuesday so we'll see how it goes.
"I think Payton (Allen) ended up getting about 55 minutes of fitness today. Not that she needed fitness, but when you are looking at Jackson Prep next week you want to get as much accurate soccer as you can."
The match against Heritage was decided well before 7th grader Shelton Spivey scored just before the half to put the Lady Vols up 11-0.
Allen, Sallie Kate Richardson, Tiffany Huddleston and Hannah Huddleston recorded two goals each, while Jordan Jackson and Hays Miller had one goal each. Miller, another 7th grader, had the only goal of the second half.
Gardner was glad of the fact that all 25 players on the roster played and some of younger girls got quality playing time.
"They put in a good shift and performance," Gardner said.
