In announcing her candidacy for District 4 Supervisor, Bricklee Miller said:
“I am honored to make the announcement of my candidacy for Supervisor in District 4. The generous outpouring of support from so many of the respected people in my neighborhood, in the business community, and all across Oktibbeha County is truly appreciated. Like me, all of these individuals have worked countless hours during their lives to advance the ideas and principles in which they believe and I am committed to leading us toward a better tomorrow.
“As a community organizer, wife, and neighbor, I understand that we must inspire and bring our community together to move us forward. Our county government greatly impacts our lives on a daily basis and we can better our circumstances by voting for someone who believes in full transparency and real accountability.
“For the past 11 years I have had the privilege to work as the facility manager and director of the Mississippi Horse Park. This multi-million dollar public infrastructure is a unique entity within our community because it is a partnership between Mississippi State University, the City of Starkville, and Oktibbeha County. I have gained valuable experience associated with this endeavor including planning development and implementation experience, proven project start up and close out, budget analysis, personnel management and contract negotiations. The Mississippi Horse Park has thrived under my leadership, not only because I can successfully run the day-to-day activities but also because I have a vision for future growth and the motivation to make it happen. Now I would like to take my enthusiasm and innovative management skills and put them to use in our county government.
“I consider myself to be a conservative and understand the importance of being frugal with the tax payer’s dollars. After all, my family has deep roots in this county and my decisions will affect us all. I want what is best for the community. I believe in low taxes and know the value of small government. I’m not one to stand on the sidelines and point out the problems. I would rather figure out what is broken, and then roll up my sleeves and come up with a great solution to the problem; I don’t ask anything of anyone that I’m not willing to do myself.
“I’m thankful that my husband, Donnie Miller, of 13 years is supporting me through this endeavor. He is a 3rd generation, self-employed, cattle farmer and land owner in Oktibbeha County. Because of this we have always taken a special interest in our county government. I feel the family-operated, mom-and-pop job aspect gives me another point of view to bring to the table when making decisions. I understand not only the grand scale of commerce through working with tourism at the Mississippi Horse Park, but also the challenges of small businesses through helping my husband manage his business operations. This well-rounded knowledge will give me a greater perspective when making the hard decisions for my neighbors and our community.
“Over the years I have found it important to be involved and give back to my community. I am a member of several groups and organizations including: the Starkville Rotary Club, the Greater Starkville Development Partnership, the Chamber Advisory Board, Women for Agriculture in Mississippi, the Oktibbeha County Leadership Forum, Women’s Professional Rodeo Association, and the National League of AgriCenter Managers. I look forward to serving in this new area and filling in any gaps that might arise. On November 8, I ask that you support me, a true citizen-focused representative who will put the issues and concerns of local residents ahead of either political party.
