Clyde Quitman Sheely, Jr.

PONCA CITY, Okla. — Clyde Quitman Sheely, Jr., resident of Ponca City, passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital. He was 74.
The service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept.12, at the Northeast Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Nigh, officiating. Burial will then follow at the Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City, Okla. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Sunday from 5-7 p.m.
Clyde was born on March 15, 1937 to Clyde Q. Sheely, Sr. and Katherine Baskervill in Starkville, Miss. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and then attended the University of Illinois where he received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. He was married to Marilyn Sheely in 1981. He worked as a Chemical Engineer for ConocoPhillips.
He was involved in Habitat for Humanity, Society for Petroleum Engineers and Baptist Missions. He was also an Eagle Scout and worked with the local Explorer Post.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn Sheely of the home; daughter, Pam and Don Dickerson of Ponca City, Okla.; son, Stephen and Marla Sheely of Fayetteville, Ark.; daughter, Michelle and Tony Proctor of Sand Springs, Okla.; daughter, Tiffany and Bert Young of Bladenboro, N.C.
Clyde was “”Paps”” to 11 grandchildren: Lindsey Reed and Davis Dyer Dickerson; Jordan Lee, John Hartness, and Joseph Robert Sheely; Kirsten, Brittany, and Ethan Proctor; Lillian Katherine, Gwyneth Hartness, and Ainsley Laurel Young; and one great-grandchild Damien Albert Clostio. He is also survived by a brother, Robert Sheely and wife DeeDee of Jackson, Miss., one niece, Kristen Pyle and one nephew, Allen Sheely.
Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William B. Sheely.
Casketbearers will be Joe Hoyle, Charlie Blew, Donald Davis, Don Dickerson, Tony Proctor, and Bert Young.
