Titans have tough Armour on offense

October 5, 2011

The success of the Ridgeland Titans this season has a great deal to do with their Armour.
Opponents this season have found out just how tough running back Quardarius Armour can be.
Armour has 109 carries for 909 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Titans. He averages 8.34 yards per carry and 151.5 yards per game.
Not bad for a player who started at defensive back the last two years for Ridgeland coach Kenny Burton.
"We moved him over to offense this year and he's a good hard-nosed little running back," Burton said. "He runs the ball really well, shows a lot of speed and we're proud of him."
Armour has helped the Titans to records of 4-2 overall and 2-0 in Class 5A, Region 2, District 6 this season.
Ridgeland is a school that has been in existence for 10 years in the Madison County School District after branching off from Madison Central High School.
After winning the division in three of the last four years, Burton likes where his program stands.
"There's always room for improvment, but I think we've got a good overall athletic program," Burton said.
Along with Armour, the Titans have gotten offensive production from quarterback Tyler Jones. Jones has completed 52 of 93 pass attempts for 671 yards and five touchdowns.
Ridgeland takes on the Starkville Yellowjackets at home Friday night with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
Burton knows a thing or two about the Jackets, who have the same records overall and in the region as the Titans. He served as coordinator in West Point and also worked in Houston.
"I know about the tradition of Starkville," Burton said. "I know they'll put a good football team on the field with a lot of good athletes. I know Jamie (Mitchell) and the type of program that he runs. We're looking forward to playing them."
