An aggressive attack by Starkville firefighters extinguished an early morning garage fire Sunday before it spread to the rest of the residence.
At approximately 8:11 a.m., SFD crews from stations one, two and three responded to a fire at 90 Leflore Street in the Rolling Hills subdivision.
SFD Fire Marshal Mark McCurdy said a neighbor discovered the fire, called 911 and alerted the homeâ€™s occupants. Three adults were in the house at the time of the fire, McCurdy said, but all escaped without injury.
Once on scene, firefighters discovered the homeâ€™s attached garage and its attic area engulfed by flames.
â€śThat whole entire section of the house was on fire,â€ť McCurdy said.
SFD firefighters knocked down the flames in a matter of minutes and stayed on scene for almost three hours overhauling the area and making sure no hot spots reignited the home.
â€śOur guys made a good interior attack on the fire and got a hold of it quickly,â€ť SFD Chief Rodger Mann said.
McCurdy said investigators remained on scene until 5 p.m. The fire originated in the garageâ€™s attic area, McCurdy said, but its cause is still under investigation.
Smoke detectors were present in the house and did function properly during the emergency.
