Morgan Miller has found a situation where she can be a successful soccer player as a freshman.
The Starkville native has been playing center-midfield at Hinds Community College this season and has had a winning experience.
After Hinds defeated Northwest Community College 2-0 to improve to 10-6-1, it will take on Gulf Coast Community College Saturday (10 a.m.) in the state tournament.
"I'm just excited about that to see how we do," Miller said. "It's been a great year so far and I really enjoy being here and playing for Hinds."
Hinds coach Marcille Mclendon calls Miller's play "fantastic" as a freshman.
"She's very talented and sees the field very well," Mclendon said. "Once she got the freshman jitters out of her, she was able to step up and start playing like I felt she could when I signed her.
"She has progressed every game, has really become a good player and is a big asset to our program."
Miller has four goals and two assists this season. One of her assists came in the win against Northwest.
Once Miller became adjusted to her new surroundings and teammates, she became comfortable in what she was doing.
"It's just a matter of figuring out each other, how we play and working together as a team," Miller said. "Our coach seeing everybody's ability really helps too.
"It's all about finding what we're good at and contributing to the team and make sure we are always working our hardest at practice and in games."
