Jackets shut out Indians

YAZOO CITY – The Starkville Yellow Jackets continued to roll in Class 5A, Region 2, District 6 with a 35-0 victory against the Yazoo City Indians.
With the win, the Jackets improved to 7-2 overall and 5-0 in the region.
Starkville junior quarterback Gabe Myles completed 6-of-10 pass attempts for 175 yards and three touchdowns.
After Myles completed a 27-yard scoring pass to Devin Mitchell to begin the scoring for the Jackets in the first quarter, they added three more touchdowns in the second quarter.
Mitchell scored on a 17-yard run, while Princeton Jones caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Myles and Mitchell had a 46-yard touchdown catch from Myles.
Starkville got one more touchdown in the game when Latajah Bush returned a fumble 35 yards in the third quarter.
Along with his passing numbers, Myles was also the leading rusher for the Jackets with 69 yards on 11 carries. Preston Baker rushed nine times for 56 yards and Mitchell carried three times for 33 yards with one touchdown.
Mitchell was the leading receiver with three catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns.
Starkville was able to out-gain its host 435 total yards to 154 yards.
The Jackets were able to overcome being flagged 17 times for 117 yards, while the Indians were only penalized six times for 30 yards.
Starkville looks to keep its unbeaten streak going in the region next Friday when it hosts Callaway.
