SA drops 21-3 decision to PCS on road

HATTIESBURG – The Starkville Academy Volunteers lost their final game of the regular season Friday night to Presbyterian Christian 21-3.
With the loss, the Vols take records of 9-2 overall and 4-2 in Class AAA-District 2, Division II into next week's home playoff matchup against Clarksdale-Lee Academy.
Starkville Academy fell behind 7-3 at halftime and Presbyterian Christian scored twice in the second half to put the game away.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Vols took a 3-0 lead in the game on a 42-yard field goal by Jonathon Burton with 8 minutes remaining in the second quarter.
PCS got its first touchdown on a 36-yard pass from quarterback Brandon Sullivan to receiver Hunter Norton at the 1:45 mark of the second quarter.
In the second half, Sullivan tossed his second touchdown pass of the game for the Bobcats, this time a 46-yard play to Hunter Hawkins with 5 minutes left in the third quarter. The final PCS score was a run by Blake Graves at the 4-minute mark of the fourth quarter.
Starkville Academy had 121 yards of offense, all on the ground. Colby Runnels was the leading rusher with 9 carries for 64 yards.
The homestanding Bobcats had 174 yards rushing and 131 yards passing.
Ryan McKell had an interception for the Vols, while Bailey Newell was credited with a fumble recovery. The other defensive leaders for SA were Kirby Coxl and Angus Catchot.
