WEIR – East Oktibbeha's 2011 football season came to an end Friday night following a 32-6 loss on the road to Weir.
Sophomore running back John Outlaw delivered the Titans their only points of the contest courtesy of a four-yard run in the third quarter.
East Oktibbeha head coach Randy Brooks said his team struggled in the contest due to many of his players suffering from injuries.
"A lot of the young guys got the chance to play tonight because a lot of our veterans have been hurt," said Brooks.
Thursday wasn't the first time the injury bug has hampered the Titans this year. East Oktibbeha, who finished its season with an overall record of 5-6 with a 3-5 mark in Class A, Region 3 play, actually won five of its first six games this season before losing five in a row to close the year.
Brooks says his club's late-season struggles were due, in large part, to his team being bruised and battered.
"Ultimately, all the injuries and lack of depth just caught up to us," said Brooks. "When all the injuries started to hit, we didn't have the bodies to make up for it."
East Oktibbeha's second-half schedule also played a large part in the school's late-season slide. The Titans final five losses all came courtesy of the top five teams in the region.
Still, Brooks said he saw his team make strides this year that bodes well for the future.
"At 5-6, that's still a good start to helping us get to where we want to be," said Brooks.
