The Starkville Police Department is investigating an early Sunday morning shooting which left one person injured at a Highway 12 gas station.
SPD officers arrived at the B Quick gas station, located at the intersection of Montgomery Street and Highway 12, at 1:50 a.m. Sunday after numerous shots were fired outside of the store.
SPD Capt. Frank Nichols said a large crowd was gathered outside of the store and “during that time, we don’t know why, but shots were fired.”
Nichols said several cars parked at the B Quick were struck by the bullets. One woman was injured by shattered glass particles, Nichols said. The victim was transported to Oktibbeha County Hospital and released, a SPD release said.
At the time of the incident, Nichols said an SPD officer was responding to a call at Sonic across the highway and was on scene shortly after the shots were fired.
Several individuals at the scene were questioned, but no arrests have been made.
Nichols said he hopes the department can retrieve bullets for testing and use surveillance footage to identify a primary suspect. SPD has several people of interest it is looking into, according to the release.
No other details are available due to the nature of the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information about the shooting can call SPD at 662-323-4131 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
