Gail Montgomery-Yukon

November 10, 2011

Mrs. Gail Montgomery-Yukon died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, after a long series of illnesses. She was born 65 years ago in West Point.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 35 years, Ron Yukon, as well as countless people around the country who knew her as a friend, mentor, counselor and teacher.
She is also survived by her brothers, Roger L. Montgomery (Paulette) of Pascagoula, and Pete Montgomery (Libby) of West Point; seven nieces and nephews; and seven great nieces.
She began to read as a preschooler and her love of reading kept her in touch with the leading edge of thought, even as her physical abilities diminished. Gail attributed some of her skills to the 4-H club, where she discovered and developed her skills as a public speaker. On the high school and college debate teams, she learned how to argue both sides of an issue, but she always knew on which side she stood. Gail began her professional counseling career as a youth minister at the First Baptist Church in Aberdeen.
While still in college, her passion for helping others took her to the Philippines as a journeyman missionary. Upon returning from her missionary work, Gail completed a master’s degree in counseling. She parlayed her passion for helping others into a private practice that was maintained for over 40 years. Gail had a unique counseling style that drew people to her from all walks of life. She developed her own therapy system, which she taught around the country as well as using it in her work with individuals and couples.
Gail was also funny. Ron says he married her to keep him laughing. Gail’s desire to help others continued even after her passing.
Gail’s body was donated for medical transplantation and research.
No formal memorial service is planned.
People are encouraged to remember her in their own way and to make donations in her name to the charity of their choice.
