Mrs. Sara Hines died Friday, Nov. 11, 2011. She was born in Yazoo County on Jan. 19, 1912.
Hines graduated from high school at age 15. In her 20s, she became principal of the same school.
She graduated from the Miss. State Teacher’s College (now a part Southern Miss.) at age 18, where she was Miss Miss. State Teacher’s College.
Throughout her adult life, she was appreciated for her beauty, charm, intelligence and organizational skills. While a resident of Starkville, she was active in civic affairs, serving as chairman of the Parent Teachers Association, superintendent of the Sunday school at First Presbyterian Church as well as president of the Women of the Church.
Upon the death of her husband, Chesley Hines, she assumed his position as executive director of the Southeastern Pecan Growers Association.
For the past 12 years, she lived at Lambeth House in New Orleans. The family especially appreciates the care which she received by the staff of Lambeth House and Hospice.
Survived by a son, Dr. Chesley Hines, Jr.; his wife, Phyllis Milner Hines; granddaughter, Ainsley Allen Hines; and grand-son, Chesley Hines, III.
Visitation for Mrs. Hines will be held at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
A private burial will follow in memorial Garden Park.
