The Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs are not satisfied.
Despite opening the season with a 78-41 victory against Jacksonville State, the Lady Bulldogs understand they have to be prepared for the challenges ahead.
The next one comes tonight when Xavier comes into Humphrey Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
MSU senior point guard Diamber Johnson had the hot hand and seemed to score at will against Jacksonville State with a career-high 30 points.
Even with the success for herself and the team in the season-opener, Johnson said that's not a reason to quit working.
"There is a lot of little stuff we are doing wrong, but I still feel like we have a special team," Johnson said. "We have little things with our defensive we need to improve, but we really have something special in the making and it's really obvious."
Records fell in the first game of the season for the Lady Bulldogs as freshman center Martha Alwal set a school mark for blocks in a game with 10 and the 14 blocks as a team was also a new high.
Alwal starts on the front line along with fellow center Catina Bett, while Johnson, Porsha Porter and Kendra Grant make up the guards.
Playing Xavier won't be an easy assignment for MSU. The Lady Bulldogs dropped a 61-36 decision to the Lady Musketeers last season in Cincinnati.
Xavier, which won its season-opener against Eastern Kentucky 66-61, is led by Tyeasha Moss. She had a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds in the first game for the Lady Musketeers.
It's the hope of MSU women's coach Sharon Fanning-Otis that her team guards and shoots better if its to pull off a big win at home.
