The Starkville Yellowjackets can expect to be on the fast track Saturday.
Starkville opens the outdoor track season in Birmingham, Ala., at a new CrossPlex multi-purpose athletic facility. It will be the first of three meets for the Jackets at the venue and something that coach Chris Barnett believes will be a great opportunity for his athletes.
"We are going to be part of something special," Barnett said. "Being able to go to this facility is going to blow some of our kids' minds."
Barnett calls The Birmingham CrossPlex "a world-class facility" that contains a hydraulic track. That type of track features dual Mondo runways and dual throwing areas for all field events.
A Mondo surface is considered to be the fastest in the world and the evidence of that is the over 200 world records being set on it.
Starkville is bringing back indoor track this season after one year off.
Barnett is excited about what his squad brings to the table and expects a successful indoor and outdoor season.
"We have some of the top track and field athletes in the state on the boys and girls side," Barnett said.
