SENATOBIA – The Starkville Academy Volunteers jumped out to an 18-6 lead after the first quarter and held off North Delta Academy 42-32 in the first round of the Magnolia Heights Classic Wednesday.
The 18-6 lead stood for SA until halftime as the two teams battled through a scoreless second quarter, then the Vols out-scored North Delta 12-7 in the third quarter to increase the advantage to 30-13.
Carnail Minor led Starkville Academy with 18 points and was the only player to score in double figures. Austin Kinard had seven points, but pulled down 10 rebounds. Jon Michael Robinson had seven points and eight rebounds. Zack Thomas had eight boards.
The Vols held North Delta without a scorer in double figures.
Starkville Academy, which improved its record to 5-8, plays the winner of the Magnolia Heights-Hernando game at 7:15 p.m. today.

SENATOBIA – The Lady Vols secured a 19-5 advantage after the first quarter and never looked back.
Anna Lea Little had 15 points and seven rebounds for SA, while Julianne Jackson was next in the scoring column with nine points. Maridee Higginbotham had 13 rebounds.
The Lady Vols played strong defense, limiting Lewisburg to five points in the first quarter, six points in the second and third quarters and four points in the fourth quarter.
Starkville Academy improved its record to 14-2 and plays the winner of the Magnolia Heights-DeSoto Central matchup at 6 p.m. today.
