Leman E. Whitaker, 64, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 at Regency Hospital in Meridian.
He was a retired service writer for the city of Starkville, Army veteran and member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he was an usher for many years. He loved people, especially senior adults at Friendship Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Amy; his parents, Levi and Annie Whitaker; and two brothers, J. D. Whitaker and Larry Whitaker.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Reed Whitaker of Starkville; daughters, Emily Klimek (Lee) of Knoxville, Tenn., and Mindy Whitaker of Starkville; grandson, Lee Klimek of Knoxville, Tenn.; brothers, Ira Whitaker of Florence, Buster and James Whitaker of Eupora; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Friendship Baptist Church in Sturgis. Revs. Tim Buchanan, Halton Davis Jr. and Caleb Howell will conduct the service.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Jan. 4, 2012, at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville.
Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Gideonâ€™s and Friendship Baptist Church.
Pallbearers are Paul Hayes, Aubrey Ray, Floyd Reed, Joel Reed, Chris Whitaker, Shannon Whitaker, Bernie White and Kenny Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Blankenship, Gene Collins and Adult and Senior Ladies Sunday School Class members of Friendship Baptist Church.
