Laura Madelyn Carson, 11, died Jan. 1, 2012, at the Athens Limestone Hospital in Athens, Alabama. Laura was born July 7, 2000, in Charlotte, N.C., and moved to Starkville in November 2001.
She was a blessing and brought joy to her parents, family and friends. She was a fan of the Starkville High School Yellowjackets and Mississippi State University Bulldogs. Laura loved texting and emailing her friends with whom she was in constant contact.
Laura was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Starkville where she was in the church choir and served as an acolyte.
Laura danced competitively with ACPA, formerly Dancing Feet Academy. She was an honor student in the sixth grade at Armstrong Middle School where she played the French horn in the school band and was actively involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Laura played Upward basketball, SAY softball and piano.
Laura is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, James and Regina Carson, and by her maternal step-grandfather, Grady Jones.
Laura is survived by her parents, Lee and Jennifer Carson, and younger brother, Garrett. She is also survived by her paternal grandmother, Mary Jo Carson of Starkville; paternal grandparents, Richard Slayton of Town Creek, Ala. and Carolyn Jones of Hanceville, Ala.; her aunt and uncle, Amy and Charles Morrelli of Madison, Ala., and her uncle and aunt Ed and Rama Carson of Abilene, Texas; her cousins are Anthony Morrelli and Tara Carson. She is also survived by a host of extended family and dear friends.
Pallbearers will be Bill Thurlow, Gerald â€śBooâ€ť Matthews, Steve Snell, Roger Smith, Lee Robertson and Litt Upshur.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Camp Lake Stephens, 117 Camp Lake Stephens Drive, Oxford, MS 38655.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church in Starkville.
Burial will follow at Oddfellows Cemetery in Starkville.
Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, in the Family Life Center of the First United Methodist Church.
