YAZOO CITY – The Starkville High School boys' team avenged an earlier loss to the hands of Yazoo City Friday night.
The came away with a 54-34 win to put themselves in the drivers' seat for winning the division.
The Indians traveled to Starkville two weeks ago and gave the Yellowjackets a 50-47 loss.
That loss was their only in division and first on their home floor.
The Yellowjackets loss twice in the Joe Horne Christmas Classic against Ridgeway (Tenn.) and Provine.
Gavin Ware seemed to be fueled by that loss as he collected 15 points and 16 rebounds.
Steve Brand led the Jackets with 16 points. Jacolby Mobley added 10 points, Mike Brand chipped in seven points, and Tory Rice recorded six points.
SHS improved to 20-3 overall and 4-1 in district play with the victory.

YAZOO CITY – The Lady Jackets got up over the .500 mark with the win.
SHS improved its record to 11-10 overall and 2-3 in the district.
It was the second time the Lady Jackets have beaten the Lady Indians this year.
Head coach Kristie Williams was excited as she said "much better now."
Brittany Brown led the Lady Yellowjackets with 25 points. Sheneka Townsel chipped in nine points.
Both SHS squads will be back in action Tuesday night when they play host to the Neshoba Central Rockets at 6 p.m. There will be a junior varsity game before beginning at 5 p.m.
